Understanding the Car Inspection Report: A Guide for Pakistani Buyers

In the modern Pakistani car market, the traditional "mechanic check" is being replaced by professional, computer-generated inspection reports. Companies like PakWheels, CarFirst, and various banks now offer 200+ point inspections. But how do you read these reports? Here is a simple guide to help you understand the data.

1. The Overall Rating (Out of 10)

Most reports give a score. A score of 9.0 or above usually means a car is in showroom condition. A score between 7.0 and 8.0 is standard for a well-maintained used car. If a car scores below 6.0, it likely has major mechanical or accidental issues.

2. Body and Paint: "Original" vs. "Showered"

The report will show a diagram of the car with percentages.

  • Original: Paint thickness is between 3.5 to 5.5 mils.
  • Repainted/Showered: Thickness above 7.0 mils indicates the piece has been repainted.
  • Poti/Filler: Thickness above 15-20 mils means there was a dent that was filled with putty before painting.

3. Engine and Battery Health

Look for the "Engine Blow" and "Battery Health" sections. A healthy engine should have zero visible smoke from the oil dipstick. For hybrid cars (like Aqua or Prius), the report will show the Hybrid Battery Life—anything above 70% is considered good for a used vehicle.

4. Suspension and Under-Body

The report will mention if there are any oil leakages from the shocks or the gearbox. In Pakistan, dusty roads can wear out suspension bushes quickly, so pay close attention to the "Suspension Noise" remarks.

5. Transmission Check

For automatic cars, the report verifies if the gear shifting is smooth. If you see a "Faulty" remark in the OBD scanner section, it means the car’s computer has detected an internal error that needs a professional fix.

Conclusion: Never rely solely on the seller's word. A professional inspection report costs around 3,000 to 5,000 PKR, but it can save you lakhs of rupees in future repairs.
